Upcoming Public Talk about Jump-Starting America

Updated: Apr 6, 2019

Can the United States grow faster, create more good jobs, and genuinely spread opportunity?

Yes: by investing more in science and technology, by placing those investments strategically around the country, and by creating an Innovation Dividend – paying cash to all Americans every year, based on the success of public investments in the tech sector.

What technologies should receive support?  Which cities have the potential to become the next generation tech hubs?  How do we ensure that benefits from the next tech boom are shared more broadly?

Join Jon Gruber and Simon Johnson in discussing their new book, Jump-Starting America: How Breakthrough Science Can Revive Economic Growth and the American Dream, in a series of events and media appearances around the country.

The first public event is on Tuesday, April 9, organized by Harvard Book Store and held at the Brattle Theater in Cambridge, MA. Register here!

All are welcome! Attendees will have the opportunity to buy a signed advance copy of the book.

How can we encourage tech hubs outside major cities? Personally, I found success by networking at smaller, regional conferences instead of the big, national ones. It built stronger, local connections. Did anyone else find a unique way to break into a specific field?

Anyway, has anyone seen those incredibly skilled players in Basket Random ?

That's a twist. I'm cautiously optimistic, but "shared more broadly" is the key phrase there, isn't it? Tech booms tend to... not do that organically. Strategic placement is smart, though.

It's like, you can't just throw money at every city and expect a Silicon Valley to sprout, right? That's basically the app store model. Remember Flappy Bird? All those clones? Most just flopped. (Sorry, had to). Anyway, definitely curious to see the proposals. Cambridge is a bit of a hike, but signed copy... tempting.
